Hi friends! Easter holidays means that the temporary assortment is cancelled this week, but fear not – I’ve picked a couple of classics for all your easter needs. Cheers! 🍷
Georg Breuer Sauvage Riesling – #5899 – 149:-
Really solid Riesling made by the Rheingau legend Theresa Breuer. Notes of pear, appeles and elderflowers, jammed in to a really solid and balanced package. Goes really really well with waffles, salmon and roe. 100% Riesling.
Le Hurlevent Châteauneuf-du-Pape – #2291 – 259:-
There are few wines that scream easter more to me than C9dP, for a very simple reason: they pair exceptionally well with grilled lamb. This one is a pretty good example in my book, fruity and bold, but with an elegance to it. Get’s even better after a couple of years in a dark wardrobe, so maybe pick up a couple of bottles and save on for next year? Greanche, Syrah and Cinsault.

Nerd zone: Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Châteauneuf-du-Pape, or C9dP for short, is one of the most recognised appellations in the southern Rhône. The name means “the Popes new castle,” which is a nod to the 14th-century Avignon Papacy which was also when the region gained prominence. The wines are usually Grenache driven blends, but they can legally include up to 13 different grape varieties, including Syrah, Mourvèdre, and Cinsault. I’ll spare you the full list here.
The warm climate and the region’s famous galets roulés (large, rounded stones that retain heat during the night) help ripen grapes fully and creates wines that are bold, full-bodied, and often a bit spicy. You can sometimes recognise the wines from the garrigue (a fancy word for wild herbs like thyme and rosemary) that shines through the dark berry notes. Châteauneuf-du-Pape reds are often aged quite a long time in large old barrels or concrete vats, to preserve the fruit while also softening the tannins.
Fun fact: there is a local law in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, established it the 1950s, that prevents UFOs from taking off or landing in the area at night. As far as I know, it has been followed.
